2019 NFL Mock Draft 1.0: Los Angeles Rams focus on linebacker first round
By Dan Parzych
4. Oakland Raiders: Clelin Ferrell, Edge, Clemson
Disaster doesn’t even begin to describe what this past season was like for the Oakland Raiders since the hiring of Jon Gruden was supposed to help the team return to the level of being a top contender in the AFC, which obviously didn’t happen.
Then again, as frustrating as it was to watch the Raiders at times in 2018, at least the team was able to gain three first-round picks for the upcoming draft thanks to trades involving Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper.
Some will make the case that Oakland would have been better off keeping their former stars, but all the team can do now is focus on talent from this year’s class to see which players can help them turn things around to make sure the results are much better next season.
Without question, the Raiders are in desperate need of adding a few playmakers on defense who know what it takes to apply constant pressure to opposing quarterbacks. And while some will make the case that Clelin Ferrell shouldn’t be this high on the list, the Clemson star is one of the top defenders from this year’s class for a reason.
Ferrell’s power alone makes him a nightmare for any opponents, and the 21 sacks recorded in the final two years with the Tigers shows what kind of addition this could be for Oakland on defense since his potential alone makes this an intriguing option.
