LA Rams select Josh Jones, OT Houston

The Rams take another cornerstone position player in the second round. OT Josh Jones is taken as the 52nd overall selection of the draft. Jones plays a very important left tackle position.

Jones stands 6-feet-7 weighing 310 pounds. He immediately slots in as the blindside protector for Rams quarterbacks. His athleticism will be a major asset in the Rams aerial assault, as well.

Lance Zierlein of nfl.com reports the following of Jones’ ability:

"…  He’s a good fit for a move-oriented rushing attack …"

Jones will play well blocking downfield in the Rams screenplays to backs and receivers. He will be able to make blocks at each level of the defense. Jones is a straight-ahead type of player in run blocking situations.

The Rams have selected four offensive linemen in the last two drafts. You can never have too many linemen, especially when the injury epidemic could strike at any time. And left tackle Andrew Whitworth becomes a free agent in March, with no guarantees that the Rams can afford to re-sign him.

Offensive linemen make their Combine on-field debut on Friday, February 28. Be sure to catch Jones perform each drill. Watch to see him block the edge pass rusher. Most of all, witness his athleticism as he performs the 40-yard dash and green drills.

This next player will be a defensive contributor for many seasons.
