The LA Rams have a huge hole at left tackle. If re-signing LT Andrew Whitworth falls through, the team trade for Washington Redskins LT Trent Williams is entirely possible

The LA Rams are not in the right draft position to select a 2020 starting left tackle in the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft. That’s problematic, as the team is bracing for the loss of veteran left tackle Andrew Whitworth to the 2020 NFL Free Agency market. Based on the debacle of the 2019 season with the hodgepodge patchwork to the offensive line, that is the last thing the Rams want to endure again.  While the Rams can reinforce the roster in the 2020 NFL Draft, they are starting at pick number 52.  At that point, the team cannot count on filling roster holes.  In fact, the team must enter the draft with roster holes already addressed, and aim at picking the best player available.

While that’s the best strategy for the NFL draft, it does nothing to fill the roster hole. Thankfully, the tone between left tackle Andrew Whitworth and the LA Rams has been incredibly positive so far. So far so good.  But positive tones can disperse quickly when talking dollars and cents, and at this point in time, Whitworth truly has the Rams over a barrel. That being said, the Rams need a “Plan B”, and fast.

Lo and behold, the folks over at FanSided’s Washington Redksins website, Riggo’s Rag, and specifically Jacob Camenker, believes that the Redskins would accept a trade for their disgruntled left tackle, Trent Williams, if talks to re-sign the veteran fall through.  In the article, Camenker cites the Houston Texans trade of offensive tackle Duane Brown.

The final deal sent Brown and Houston’s 2018 fifth-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks, in exchange for Seattle’s 2018 third-round and 2019 second-round picks.

While the LA Rams have limited picks and salary cap dollars, this is absolutely the type of trade that has Rams’ general manager Les Snead written all over it.
