Who won the day?

Of course, even in the light of “entertainment”, the NFL Scouting Combine is athletic competition. Competition means winners and losers. And in a series of events where athletes compete, scores are recorded, and dozens of national media are present, headlines will be made. So let’s talk about the winners of the day.

Clemson outside linebacker Isaiah Simmons entered the NFL Scouting Combine with a top rating and boosted his stock even more. He is a 6-foot-3 238 pound outside linebacker who truly had a field day at the NFL Combine. While he won’t fall to the Rams, he’ll certainly create a lot of NFL Draft buzz to distract teams from Rams’ day two targets.

One such potential Rams’ target is Temple inside linebacker Shaun Bradley who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 244 pounds. While Temple has the occasional solid NFL caliber talent, Bradley has not caught the attention of many scouts or pundits. That all changed with his Combine performance. He looked the part of the modern inside linebacker of combining strength, speed, and agility. He had been projected as a day-three prospect, but his combine performance may propel him into the day-two territory.

Florida defensive end Jabari Zuniga has appeared in several articles so far as a potential target for the LA Rams in the 2020 NFL Draft.  Another prospect who has projected as a day-three candidate, the 6-foot-3 264-pound defensive end helped his cause immensely by showing off as the best combination of talent among true defensive ends at this year’s combine. Keep in mind that Zuniga brings good prowess at run defense, a skill that will likely be weighted by the Rams in this draft.

Ohio State defensive tackle Davon Hamilton could hardly be accused of not being scouted enough. But he played behind a lot of talent on the Buckeyes defense, only having his moment in the spotlight in 2019. The 6-foot-3 327-pound defender showed surprising speed and impressive strength throughout his drills all day.  He also falls among the day three talent who may likely ascend to the second day of the NFL Draft by this performance.
