LA Rams 2020 offseason has become completely unpredictable
By Bret Stuter
The LA Rams have a nearly limitless number of directions the team can take this off-season, which is why it is so unpredictable
The LA Rams enter the 2020 offseason with more solutions than questions. In fact, 2020 feels like a multiple choice quiz. Each answer is correct, but fans are left in the lurch trying to guess at the MOST correct answer. Pick a topic, any topic, and the number of possible answers for that topic creates a handful of new scenarios for the Rams.
Let’s start with an easy one. Kicker Greg Zuerlein is an unrestricted free agent. Re-signing him seems like the way to go, right? But wait…there is new special teams’ coordinator John Bonamego. Does he want to draft “his” kicker? Or does Les Snead feel obliged to pinch pennies and sign a free agent kicker for cheap? Or have tryouts this season from the ranks of undrafted free agents.
You get it.
The Rams have lost veteran safety Eric Weddle to retirement. 17 other players stand in the wings, ready to return to the LA Rams or sign on with the best offer from one of 31 other NFL teams. 17 other players with anywhere from 4-6 different solutions of how that will resolve this offseason.

The 2019 chaos on offense seems to be the rock-of-Gibraltar this year. With a decision or two about the offensive line, a fullback, and the makeup of tight ends in 2020, the Rams offense will at least be familiar to the fans. New plays perhaps? But the same faces passing, running, and catching the ball.
That defense feels different this year. The 3-4 will be the same. But the Brandon Staley era is here, and will likely mean new ways of doing things. How will he unlock All-Pro DT Aaron Donald? More multiple-choice answers.
The cliche’ answer is to wait and see the final results before judging the team’s offseason. That has never been truer than this year. Fans’ patience will be pushed to the breaking point. I’m convinced that the Rams have options this year, in fact maybe too many. There will likely be moments of frustration.
In the end, the Rams will take the field at SoFi stadium with a 53-man roster aiming at returning to the Super Bowl.
