5 reasons why RB is now LA Rams top priority in 2020 NFL Draft

3 – No guarantees RB Brown will remain
Running back Malcolm Brown will be entering his sixth NFL season. Over the past five seasons, he has carried the ball just 197 times. The irony is that Brown’s draft profile stated in no-less-terms that Brown’s greatest feature was carrying the ball repeatedly, and getting stronger through the course of a came as he wore down defenses.
Unfortunately, Brown was not given much of a chance to do that with the LA Rams. While he is a fine running back with solid upside, his forte is getting touches and punishing defenses. Perhaps he will get that chance now with the release of featured running back Todd Gurley.
But Brown will never be the runner Todd Gurley is. Brown may go three quarters in a game carrying the ball 20 times for a mere 50 yards. But in the fourth quarter, he can rip off seven more carries for another 60 yards. And that is the style of old-school runners, the Larry Csonka mentality that ball-carriers with the ball can hit defender hard enough to make them hesitate on the next tackle.
In another article, we identified five players from the 2019 roster who would likely not return in 2020. Brown was named on that list. So far, three of the five are off the Rams’ roster. The reason Brown is on the list is simple. The Rams version of his role does not up with his strength on an offense. So far, the Rams have used Brown on a rotational basis, an infrequent runner used to spell Gurley for the occasional break in the course of the game. Brown needs more touches to be effective. He may not even get that chance without Gurley on the roster.
