The LA Rams check into the NFL Free Agency market long enough to re-sign long time Rams’ defensive lineman Michael Brockers
In a surprising way, the LA Rams have agreed with Michael Brockers to a three-year deal, worth up to $31.5 million dollars. Yes, THAT Michael Brockers. The same Michael Brockers who was first out of the NFL Free Agency market and on his way to the Baltimore Ravens. Only he never made it to a signed contract.
And the LA Rams were more than ready to step in to remedy the matter.
Wednesday afternoon, Jeff Zrebiec reported that the sudden interest from the Baltimore Ravens for Ndamukong Suh was due to a “failed physical” from Michael Brockers with an independent team-designated doctor, which was a surprise.
Now, in the wake of Friday, March 27th, Zrebiec, as well as NFL Network and the own Ravens announced that Brockers will not be joining the AFC team. The word from Baltimore is that they did not reach an agreement, but, with the previous Wednesday news, that deems improbable.
The Rams know Michael Brockers very well, and jumped up early in the morning to offer him a similar (got to guess team-friendly contract) to Brockers and his agent, and closed it the fastest way possible.
A similar situation happened back in March 2014, when impendent free agent guard Roger Saffold failed his physical with the then Oakland Raiders, allowing the Rams to retain him; little to say, that worked like a charm for both the Rams and Saffold.
This is a breeze of fresh air for the Rams, who have been almost inactive in this pre-season due to salary cap trouble. They are able to keep an effective familiar face in the building that has played both Defensive End and Nose Tackle, giving them the flexibility to rotate with newly agreed A’sShawn Robinson, and erasing a glaring need with the draft being less than a month from now.
The Rams, for once, catch a break in 2020. After the new logo, they certainly can use one.
