Round 7 – Quarterback

With the 240th and final pick for the LA Rams in the 2020 NFL Draft, the LA Rams select quarterback Jake Luton, from Oregon State University.

The LA Rams failed to sign a veteran backup quarterback, so the team does the next best thing and drafts one of the most talked-about draft prospects in round seven.  This young man is 6-foot-6 and weighs 224-pounds, and played quarterback for the Oregon State Beavers.

He’s raw for an NCAA quarterback, mainly due to difficulty he had getting on the field. He was passed over by Washington State’s coach Mike Leach and ended up at Idaho where he was a backup QB. He then transferred to Oregon State, losing a year of eligibility in the process. He remained at Oregon State for his final year of NCAA eligibility.  For his career, he played in 29 games, completed 496 passes for 5,630 yards and 43 touchdowns.  His final season with the Beavers accounted for 28 passing touchdowns with an average receiving group.

He is an NFL height and weight, has a cannon for an arm, has a 62.2 percent collegiate accuracy, and demonstrates the football smarts to throw the ball out of bounds rather than take a sack.

Next. Will the next LA Rams contract dump be this popular player?. dark

He needs work reading his progressions, and in pulling the ball down and running with it. He’s also not a sure hit at the position. But he’s an ideal round seven selection, as his size and arm exhibit the flash of “what if it comes together for him?” for fans and coaching staff alike.
