The LA Rams gear down in round five awaiting their next opportunity to make a draft selection. But the phone rings, and it’s the Las Vegas Raiders who propose a deal for Rams’ running back Malcolm Brown. TRADE: Las Vegas Raiders trade their fifth-round pick number 160 to the LA Rams for veteran running back Malcolm Brown.
The Raiders need a veteran ball carrier to add depth, and general manager Mike Mayock is enthusiastic over adding the potential upside of Brown for the paltry cost of a fifth-round pick.
Of course, the Rams are happy to add an additional pick to the fold. And the opportunity to shed a bit of salary cap space is another bonus. This is the scenario we discussed in a previous discussion about trading players for draft picks and cap space. After the Rams draft a second running back, they are willing to discuss offers for Brown.
The Raiders want a cheap backup running back, and Mike Mayock wants a veteran for the role. Of course, the Raiders have selected six rookies, plus have enjoyed a robust crop of free-agent additions to the team
