5 traps the LA Rams must avoid in the 2020 NFL Draft
By Bret Stuter
The LA Rams have 6 picks in the 2020 NFL Draft. Each pick must count, which means there are 5 traps to avoid in the draft
So here we are, aiming at the 2020 NFL Draft with a handful of picks, a bit of optimism, and the understanding that there is no margin for error for the LA Rams this year. Well, maybe just a bit of wiggle room. After all, the LA Rams have a fairly long and involved shopping list at this moment, and if the team needs to make additional personnel moves to sign additional players, the list could grow longer still.
Let’s recap the Rams roster, shall we? From a year ago, when entering the 2019 NFL Draft, the team’s current roster stands:
QB (-1, Blake Bortles) RB (0, lost RB Todd Gurley, added RB Darrell Henderson) WR (-1, Jojo Natson)
OL (+4, David Edwards, Bobby Evans, Austin Corbett, Coleman Shelton)
DL (+1, added DT A’Shawn Robinson and Greg Gaines, lost DE Morgan Fox)
DB(-1, Lost S Eric Weddle, CB Marqui Christian, CB Nickell Robey-Coleman, CB Aqib Talib, and CB Marcus Peters, and added S Taylor Rapp, S Nick Scott, CB David Long, and CB Jalen Ramsey)
LB (-3, Lost OLB Dante Fowler, LB Josh Carraway, ILB Cory Littleton, ILB Bryce Hager, and OLB Clay Matthews, added OLB Leonard Floyd, Kenny Young)
ST(-1, K Greg Zuerlein)
From a roster perspective at the general manager level, the Rams did a pretty good job of restocking the 2020 roster in 2019. So the team must now focus their attention on the 2020 NFL Draft, with the same eye towards the 2021 roster changes. That may mean that the team will draft a player today, to ensure a role is addressed in 2021. And that becomes part of the fun, after all.
But the 2020 NFL Draft has plenty of pitfalls. So how can the LA Rams avoid them? Well by knowing what to avoid, of course. Here are five such pitfalls to avoid in this NFL Draft
