The LA Rams have retained six players from the 2019 roster, re-signing DT Michael Brockers is the latest free agency move along the similar theme

The LA Rams faced the 2020 NFL Free Agency knowing that the team could not re-sign all of the players who faced expiring contracts this year.  But the team also understood the value of continuity and the talent level of the players who were poised to depart for the promise of new cities, new teams, and new opportunities to play the game of professional football.

Defensive tackle Michael Brockers was one such player. Despite the interest in returning to the Rams next – well technically, this – season, he had made his peace with the inevitable and posted a tribute to the LA Rams’ organization and fans which would also serve as his farewell.

That foresight seemed to be well-founded as Brockers was the first player reported to be signing elsewhere. Early in the free agency process, the Baltimore Ravens jumped quickly to land Brockers, and so that was that.  But the Ravens deal fell apart, allowing the LA Rams an opportunity to reclaim their long-time defensive standout.

The speed at which the Rams jumped on the chance to reclaim one of their own showed a surprising resolve of the team to reclaim one of the team’s top defensive contributors back to the roster. And the Rams, who need to get better at run defense, have miraculously stumbled into the means to re-sign their hands-down best run defender. That is an exciting development for this team.
