Reason 1: The Rams added coaches who believe in FB position
The LA Rams knew they needed to make changes in the 2020 offense. While the team might have decided to invest in a squad of “yes men” to Sean McVay’s offensive philosophy, the Rams’ head coach resisted the urge to do so. Instead, the team diversified the offensive coaching staff. And now the fans will soon see the wisdom of doing so.

The Rams added offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell from the Washington Redskins. While many pointed to the common elements of O’Connell, there are just as many striking and significant differences. O’Connell was at the helm of the Washington Redskins when they decided to add a fullback.
Add to that the hiring of running back’s coach Thomas Brown, who has an entire resume of re-introducing fullbacks into offenses, and you have a difficult time ignoring the signs. It’s a trail of breadcrumbs leading us to conclude that the LA Rams will feature a fullback in their 2020 offensive playbook.
Keep in mind we had discussed five strategies for the Rams to kickstart their running game in 2020. To date, the team has taken steps to use two such strategies: more blockers with 2 tight-end formations, and a running back by committee approach. Until the 2020 NFL season begins, we can only assert that the team will use more passing plays to open their offensive series, and will do more to move QB Jared Goff in the pocket.
