Week Five: At Washington, October 11, 10:00 am PT broadcast by Fox Sports

The Rams continue the theme of trekking to the east on week five, this time to face what may be an overmatched Washington Redskins team desperate for a victory. By this game, the Rams will either be oozing confidence at 4-0 or 3-1 or be desperate for a win if the team is 2-2 or worse.  But the more confident the Rams are when traveling to Washington for game five, the higher the risk of falling into a trap game.

More from Rams News

The Rams should be able to win against the New York Giants in week four, so they’ll be looking ahead to the San Francisco 49ers game in week six.  Off-a-win + on-the-road,+tough-rival-game-coming-up = textbook trap game.

And keep in mind that both Sean McVay and Kevin O’Connell have ties to the Washington Redskins. As much as that means both coaches are intimately familiar with the Redskins, it also means that the Redskins players know both coaches just as well. So the chance to surprise on either side of the field is lessened somewhat in this game.  And the Rams entered the Tampa Bay Buccaneers game with plenty of confidence, only to lose a game in the worst way possible to a team the Rams should have defeated on paper.

The Redskins will be problematic when their defense takes the field. DE Chase Young will team up with Ryan Kerrigan and Montez Sweat and could prove to be quite problematic for the Rams offensive line which risks looking ahead to the 49ers challenging defensive front. If the Rams can run the ball effectively in this one, they’ll do fine.
