5 last-second free agents for LA Rams ball control offense
By Bret Stuter
LT Peters
If an offensive line needed a mentor, a player with a fierce mentality who lives for the conflict of stopping elite defenders dead-in-their-tracks, then look no further than Philadelphia Eagles left offensive tackle, Jason Peters.
Peters has had a renowned career, first with the Buffalo Bills, and then with the Philadelphia Eagles. A converted tight end, he’s been the anchor of the offensive line wherever he’s played, and been the video example of offensive line coaches nationwide who emphasize proper technique. But he still has some left in the tank. That prompted us to name him as a free agent target for the LA Rams in the off-season before the Rams re-signed veteran Andrew Whitworth.
Peters may still be worthwhile to consider, particularly if his price has dropped to a bargain price in order to suit up for football once more. Despite the Rams resigning both Andrew Whitworth and Austin Blythe, 2019 proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that injuries can happen to offensive linemen. If Whitworth is injured, what then?
Peters is a solid veteran whose value goes beyond what he can do when the offense snaps the ball. He is a gladiator, a mentor, and the guy you can count on. As he has gotten older, he suffers the same weakness as Andrew Whitworth, an increasing trend for false starts. But that is a minor inconvenience for the peace of mind he continues to bring against even the best NFL pass rushers. He’s been a priority free agent target this off-season and he remains unsigned. Perhaps now, even a modest contract could land him.
