Texans linked to Brown

Of course, other teams are linked to Antonio Brown as well. One such rumor is picking up steam. It began as a mention in one twitter account but has been picking up a lot of steam in the past 24 hours.

While the rumor would certainly be good news over Brown signing with an NFC West team, it’s hard to imagine that the Houston Texans are seriously considering signing Brown. After all, the team traded away wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals out of perceived dissension with coach Bill O’Brien. Why would the Texans then have any interest in signing the talented by extremely vocal and controversial receiver Brown?

Anything goes

As always, it comes down to the perception of which is greater: the risk, or the reward? If any NFL team views the signing of wide receiver Antonio Brown as more rewarding than risky, they’ll take a flyer on the receiver.  While the contract can spell out both the player and team expectation in the contract, we have seen that even the tightest contacts have limits where Brown is concerned.

For now, the LA Rams continue to boast the best WR corps in the NFC West and make a strong argument for the best receivers in the NFL.  But that could change very rapidly. The team that signs Antonio Brown has a chance to add an incredible receiver to their team. But signing Brown, and convincing him to play well are two entirely different matters. Just ask the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Las Vegas Raiders, and the New England Patriots. All three teams had Brown signed to an NFL contract in 2019, and yet not one team could convince Brown to perform for them on game day. Caveat Emptor – buyer beware- was never more true.
