The LA Rams are certainly facing a lot of changes to the normal routine right now. Of course, that is true for all 32 NFL teams. 32 NFL teams preparing for the July 28th opening of training camp for the 2020 NFL season.  Historically, the days leading up to NFL training camps are filled with optimism and impatience, as fans finally have the chance at real NFL information.

Stories about players competing on the field. Information about the team depth chart, and the magical Cinderella storyline about the long-shot who manages to wow the coaching staff and become a surprise starter for the team. It’s a great time of year to be a fan of any NFL team. It’s the only time of the year when virtually all 32 NFL teams have that overwhelming optimism buoyed by either the success of the previous season or the infusion of the best college talent via the NFL Draft. In an ordinary season, this is a feel-good time for the NFL.

But this is not an ordinary season. This is a season of drastic change.  The preseason schedule has already been cut in half. For now, it’s difficult to say whether that’s a bad thing or a good thing for the Rams. The amount of time for teams to spend at training camp this year has been cut to the bare-bones minimum.

Even the team roster is now likely to be cut before training camp ever arrives, sending many rookies packing before they even had a chance to step onto the football field.  All the while, doubts about the 2020 NFL season remain close, like a childhood monster locked in the closet, ready to pounce as soon as the lights go out.
