G Leary

Right now, offensive guard Ron Leary is feeling great and waiting for the phone to ring. Will the LA Rams give his agent a call? The team might be wise to do so. We know that the LA Rams offensive line troubles began the moment LG Rodger Saffold signed on with the Tenessee Titans. Suddenly, the Titans are running for incredible yards.  While the Rams are likely prepared to start Austin Corbett at the left guard, the Rams would be wise to consider adding a veteran like Leary.

Who can play the position effectively if Corbett cannot? Beyond that, is there any competition for the job? 2019 had bad outcomes because the competition didn’t prepare players for the season. Leary’s presence would raise the level of competition in training camp.

Fierceness

The challenge for the Rams plans right now is committing to a youth movement for the offensive line. What the Rams learned in 2019, those young players are inconsistent, shouldn’t be forgotten in 2020.  Leary is a fierce competitor, a gladiator on the offensive line. He may not be at his peak. But he plays at a consistent level, which remains pretty good.

We have seen some big-name NFL stars signing contracts for pennies on the dollar. The reality is that many veterans still want to play.  Until the conversation gets to dollars, the Rams don’t know. 2020 is one of those wild seasons already. Why not lure a veteran offensive lineman like Leary?
