From east to west

Sebastian Joseph Day hails from the East Coast. You can tell a native of Pennsylvania when they refer to the state by the letters P A. That’s due to the fact that he was born on March 21, 1995, in the town of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. If you are unfamiliar, that is the northeast part of the state, in the Poconos region.

He began his football career at Stroudsburg High School, where he played for Mountaineers coach Joe Benard. After high school, SJD received offers from a number of college football programs, including Maryland, Temple, and Connecticut, but he chose to play for the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers. As is often the case, he was a redshirt freshman and did not get significant playing time until his sophomore season. He recorded 90 tackles and 3.5 quarterback sacks with the Scarlet Knights.

Draft day

The journalism and media studies major was a solid prospect for the NFL. His draft profile listed him at 6-foot-3.5 and tipping the scales at 300 pounds. He was a powerful young man, who was described as both passionate and very coachable. He was described as an ideal NFL nose tackle due to his knowledge of when to hold blocks and when to come off them.  He learned he was drafted by the LA Rams while throwing a birthday party for his father.

Perhaps his strongest qualities are his positive attitude and work ethic. That has fueled his success in the NFL He understands that the Rams have opened the door for him, and now he is delivering on that trust by becoming one of the best nose tackles in the NFL. He has always been invested in the community and been grateful for the training he’s received from his coaches along the way.  Now, he will turn that positive attitude to the Los Angeles community. As he discovers LA’s culinary treasures, he will be sharing those experiences with fans. Perhaps he too will discover the incredible flavor of a Pink’s Hot Dog as we had.  Or he may uncover new avenues for next year’s LA Rams tailgating article.
