DE Fox

The Rams re-signed Morgan Fox to a one-year deal late in the 2020 NFL Free Agency season. Thankfully, they chose to do so, because Morgan Fox has been worth every penny invested. Rejoining the team on a one-year contract for $825,000, Fox has added to the Rams on both defense and on special teams.

His fourth season with the Rams has been his best. Rotating in for one third of the defensive snaps, he has sacked the quarterback a total of five times this year, more than his three previous seasons.  The amazing thing is that he has done so without a huge spike of defensive snaps, nor with a drop in production elsewhere.

Fox on the run

In truth, the 6-foot-three 275-pound Fox has been more productive on defense than ever before in his football career. And with the paltry salary of under $1 million, he has been an absolute steal. It was clear that he returned to the Rams due to a lukewarm reception in the NFL Free Agency market.

Don’t look for him to return in 2021 for now. While his return is something that would be hugely beneficial for the Rams, it’s not in the current budget.  In fact, the Rams have been carrying multiple defensive linemen on the practice squad all season to absorb defections this offseason. Fox will have suitors this time around, and could be in line for a substantial pay raise.
