TE Everett

The LA Rams committed to featuring tight end Gerald Everett more this season and simply failed to do so. In fact, the Rams also failed to feature his teammate Tyler Higbee in this offense enough to justify paying him among the top-three players in the 2020 NFL season. With Higbee consuming so many dollars, there is likely not enough left to consider matching Everett with a similar compensation package.

Gerald Everett is a solid player on the end. He stands 6-foot-3, weighs 240 pounds, and catches over 70 percent of the 2020 passes thrown his way. That is a huge improvement over his career completion rate of 63.5 percent, and is one of the reasons many teams should target Everett in the 2021 NFL Free Agency market. With his 2020 contract price of just $1.9 million, Everett is most definitely due a significant raise.

Ever Ready Everett

Everett has been a go-to guy for the Rams offense since he has arrived in 2017. As a result, he has been graded very favorably by PFF, with his 2020 grade landing at a solid 64.2.  Everett can only catch and run with the passes thrown his way. Targeted just 55 times in 2020, he has managed to catch 39 balls for 392 yards and a touchdown.  He had a huge game against the Arizona Cardinals earlier in the season, catching six of seven passes for 44 yards, his most receptions in any game this year.

The Rams knew that they faced losing a quality tight end in Everett, which is why they had drafted and shelved tight end Brycen Hopkins for the season. Everett  should land a contract very similar in value to the one signed by Higbee to remain with the Rams. That would place the contract in the four-year, $32 million rang with $8 million in guaranteed salary.  At that price, the Rams would once more be potentially adding another player to the 2022 NFL Draft compensatory picks formula, perhaps with a fifth round pick.
