Reason 5 -Rams can run the ball

The LA Rams can run the ball. In fact, the LA Rams rushing offense is the 10th-ranked rushing offense in the NFL.  While that may not appear to be significant, in the NFL playoffs, it becomes a greater factor than ever.  In post-season, only the best defenses in the NFL advance. That means that an offense will face a very competent and effective opponent.

The running game brings three benefits to the team. At its most fundamental level, it forces defenses not to sell out too much on stopping the pass. That balancing effect gives the offense an advantage, as defensive backs must keep an eye on the running back as well as any receiver in their vicinity. Even or near even distribution of pass plays to run game?  Preposterous! The NFL has converted to a passing league.

Time and turnovers

The running game can cut down on turnovers, as it is more difficult to force a fumble than get an interception. The Rams offense has been particularly hard hit this season with misfires caused by quarterbacks rushing to throw the ball to the wrong spot on the football field. No offense can be counted on to move the chains and score if they give the ball away.

Finally, a rushing offense can control the clock, forcing the opponent’s defense to play longer, and keep the Rams own defense rested. Per TeamRankins.com, the LA Rams are the second-ranked NFL team with the time of possession, and only trail that of the Green Bay Packers.  Since last season, the Rams are a full 11 percent better in that crucial statistic. No doubt that has helped the Rams defense significantly.
