Kicking? Check

Matt Gay can be relied upon to kick with accuracy and power. While the Rams offense stalled in the Red zone on three separate occasions, their kicker did not allow the Rams to leave the field without points.  That was huge, is huge, for this team.  The LA Rams auditioned five different kickers and tapped three different players as the starter, this season. Finally, it appears that the effort has paid off handsomely.

With the Rams struggling to find a kicker all season, the fact that with the pressure on, the Rams were able to have five games without a missed field goal attempt was superb. In fact, in the final three games of the season, Matt Gay was a perfect eight of eight on field goals.  He never missed an extra point all season.

Difference maker

Not only does Gay have a booming leg for field goals, but he routinely gets touchbacks on kickoffs. With the Rams coverage team struggling this season, that is another huge benefit for the team. As far as timing, it’s the right time of the season to get hot in the kicking game. While the Rams have plenty of positive things going for them, a kicking game is one of the newest additions.

The Rams offense is not what it once was. The Rams have fallen into some bad habits this season, or have simply extended some bad habits learned in the 2019 season.  But one of the changes in a positive direction is the fact that the Rams can send the field goal unit onto the field to attempt a 40+ yard field goal with confidence that it will be successful.
