The Future of the Rams

First-round picks, while nice, are not crucial to a team’s success. Do you know what is? Hitting on draft picks regardless of what round you take them. The Rams’ last first-round pick was their selection, first overall, of Jared Goff. How did that work out for them?

The future is about retaining and developing the talent around their group of young stars; Aaron Donald, Jalen Ramsey, Robert Woods, and Cooper Kupp.

The Rams have had some recent success of hitting on later round picks and attracting good undrafted talent. Jordan Fuller was already a smash hit out of the sixth round last season. David Edwards is the starting left guard out of the fifth-round in 2019. Nick Scott is a good depth defensive back out of the seventh-round in 2019. Micah Kiser, Sebastian Joseph, Travin Howard, and Justin Young out of the late round of the 2018 NFL Draft. The list goes on.

The Rams strategy is pretty clear – Assess where Matthew Stafford is after next season, and continue to build and develop the depth across the rest of the roster.
