The LA Rams may have finished second in the NFC West in the standings, but Los Angeles is the 7th best football city for fans, and that is the highest-ranking for any NFC West city. How can the city that struggles to engage NFL fans to be viewed as so football cozy? Well, they are measuring apples and oranges.
In short, earning a high ranking as the best football team has to do with the number of teams, the capacity of the stadium, the success of the team, the continuity of the coaching staff, even the price of a ticket to attend an NFL game.
While the city of Los Angeles is struggling to win over fans from various competing professional sports, the city itself is doing everything possible to do so. The city boasts both the LA Rams and LA Chargers. We know that the LA Rams have been 47-33 since returning to Los Angeles. We also know that LA Chargers have been 33-31 since arriving in the city from San Diego. The Rams are 3-3 in the postseason over that period, while the Chargers are 1-1.
The survey was conducted by 14 academians, all of whom have a strong East Coast bias. For the best football cities, the panel evaluated various categories that included:
Number of NFL Teams
Performance Level of NFL Team:
Number of NFL Championships Wins
Number of NFL Division Championship Wins
Number of Hall-of-Fame Head Coaches
Franchise Value
Average Ticket Price for an NFL Game
NFL Fan Engagement
Number of Coaches in Past 10 Seasons
NFL Stadium Capacity
Attendance
Popularity Index
While the news about the city of Los Angeles having some of the least engaged NFL fans is not positive, the fact is that the city of Los Angeles is clearly doing everything necessary to persuade fans to embrace the NFL once more.
Some fans have weighed in and claimed that the LA Rams need to win a Super Bowl to earn the attention of Los Angeles residents. Perhaps that is indeed the case. Others had correctly pointed out that the Rams have only returned in 2016 after being away for over 20+ years. They suggest that it merely is a question of time before the City of Angels warms up to the Rams.
In any case, the table for the fans is set. Los Angeles is eager to win back fans to the NFL. Now, it’s just a matter of how and how long it will take to do so?
