DWill is critical

It may require offering a first-round qualifying tender offer for DB Darious Williams, but that’s still a bargain. Defensive back Darious Williams is one example of why the LA Rams can continue to play toe-to-toe with the best in the NFL without the luxury of a first-round draft pick. The LA Rams claimed him off the waiver wire of the Baltimore Ravens in 2018.

He was not an immediate star cornerback for the team. He waited patiently until roster upheaval and injury opened the door to his opportunity at the end of the 2019 season. When he finally got his chance, he made the most of it.  He was the perfect complement to All-Pro defensive back Jalen Ramsey.  Quarterbacks threw away from Ramsey. And there was Williams to make them pay when they did.

He doesn’t dominate by silhouette. After all, he stands 5-foot-9 and weighs 187 pounds. He won’t win by out-physicalling receivers. Instead, he is simply more athletic, agile, and bouncy. And with his size, all receivers will reassure the quarterback that their four to eight-inch height advantage will guarantee a completion. And then, DWill does another circus stop and the football drops harmlessly to the ground.

The LA Rams have an excellent balance and harmony in their secondary.  But no two players are better suited to play opposite one another as Jalen Ramsey and Darious Williams. Ramsey is the bigger more physical Hound. He stays in the back pocket of receivers and drops them instantly if they make a rare catch. Williams plays the Fox. He baits quarterbacks into making errant throws and plays the football to perfection.
