Hill

LA Rams defensive back Troy Hill has been steddy-freddie among the LA Rams defensive backs. Standing 5-foot-11 and weighing 183 pounds, he has been a member of the LA Rams secondary since 2016. In his five year career, he has played in 70 games for the LA Rams, and started 39 games.

For whatever the reason, he has shown up, played his heart out, and yet still has not earned the same level of love and respect as his teammates Jalen Ramsey or Darious Williams have won. It’s a bit surprising too, because Hill is one of the most versatile, deceptive, and dependable defensive backs in the NFL.  The guy just had one helluva season for the Rams.  Not only did he chalk up 77 tackles, but he picked off three passes, two of which he took all the way in for a touchdown.

He was picked on alot, but still managed to deflect 10 passes, and hold the completion rate down to 70.3 percent. The completion rate was much higher than the 45 percent from the year before, because offenses began to send their best receivers away from Ramsey and after Hill.  Still, that’s not a bad stat consider the level of competition Hill faced.

Teams have noticed Troy Hill, and no doublt there are new articles each day citing Hill as a low cost free agent alternative to some of the marquee expensive names that are being tossed around. But low cost options to NFL teams means underpaid to Hill.  And he’s very good. He just needs one more great season to persuade teams to put up some big dollars to play for them. In the meantime, he is another key free agent who would benefit from a one-year deal with the LA Rams until the NFL salary cap recovers.

Three players: Darious Williams, Morgan Fox, Troy Hill. All re-signed to the LA Rams for one more season. Their return would definitely allow the Rams to focus on other roster hotspots for the NFL Draft in 2021.  Now, all the Rams need to do is free up the cold hard cash required to bring all three back on one-year deals.
