LA Rams roster need for speed
Let’s draw a line in the sand, and say that speedy receivers are at or nearly a 40-yard dash time of 4.5-seconds. So how do the Rams players stack up?
Name Posn 40-yard dash time
Cooper Kupp WR 4.62-sec
Robert Woods WR 4.51-sec
Van Jefferson WR 4.43-sec
Trishton Jackson WR 4.50-sec
J.J. Koski WR 4.54-sec
Nsimba Webster WR 4.62-sec
Tyler Higbee TE N/A
Brycen Hopkins TE 4.66-sec
Cam Akers RB 4.47-sec
Darrell Henderson RB 4.49-sec
Xavier Jones RB 4.51-sec
Raymond Calais RB 4.42-sec
Former Players
Josh Reynolds WR 4.52-sec
Brandin Cooks WR 4.33-sec
Todd Gurley RB 4.52-sec
But speed is not the true characteristic of a deep threat receiver. I found a good description on TheSportsGeek.com:
"‘Speed alone doesn’t make a wide receiver a good deep threat, because there’s more involved, including how the defense covers them, ability to get off the line, route running, hands, and height.’-per Rex Hoffman of TheSportsGeek.com"
Another often overlooked characteristic essential to any NFL receiver is quickness. That includes the ability to jump out of the blocks, stop and pivot instantly, and create moves that soon have that receiver yards from a defender. All of those qualities combine to create a potential deep-threat receiver.
