LA Rams free agency defensive shoppers

Los Angeles Chargers – Head coach Brandon Staley arrived at the LA Rams and immediately turned to three players: Defensive back Jalen Ramsey, safety John Johnson III, and then he added outside linebacker Leonard Floyd.  While Ramsey is not available, he can jumpstart the transition of the Chargers defense by following the same pattern there, namely by signing both Johnson and  Floyd in free agency.

The Chargers have the cap space to do it too. While they are at it, they may be interested in OLB Samson Ebukam, Edge rusher Derek Rivers, DE Morgan Fox, DB Troy Hill, DB Darious William (if no tender offered), and even linebacker Travin Howard if the Rams do no resign him. The Chargers could find roster spots for practically all of the Rams defensive players. Look for them to be rather active in signing many of the Rams’ free agents.

Hot. Yes, the LA Rams fastest players can be deep threat receivers. light

Green Bay Packers – When the Green Bay Packers hired new Defensive coordinator Joe Barry, they actually were not hiring the former assistant head coach/linebackers coach away from the LA Rams. Actually, he has already decided to follow Brandon Staley to the Los Angeles Chargers and assume a new role there as the passing game defensive coordinator. But, the lure of the defensive coordinator vacancy at Green Bay pulled him a second time to the Packers.

While Barry worked with linebackers, he most certainly has an appreciation of defensive players.  Unfortunately, unlike the Chargers, the Packers are in a tight squeeze over free agents for now. While they’ll certainly look to re-sign a number of their own outbound free agents, I can see a strong case for the Packers to focus upon CB Troy Hill this offseason. They could also have a strong interest in DE Morgan Fox as well.
