The LA Rams faced another offseason of looking for coaches to fill a number of vacant positions right now. All in all, the team filled over eight vacancies among various coaching positions. How did they do that? Well, the team was a bit creative and tapped into the NCAA for their new offensive line coach, Kevin Carberry. Will he give any unique insights into Stanford offensive tackle Walker Little or offensive center Drew Dalman? Or will he veto interest in both players, and turn the Rams’ attention elsewhere?
Head coach Sean McVay reached out to a familiar face as he hired Raheem Morris as their new defensive coordinator. And finally, the team reassigned ST coordinator John Bonamego and hired his successor Joe DeCamillis. The Rams then filled other additional coaching positions rather quickly.
So many new faces still leave plenty of very important questions to consider. The first few questions to spring to mind and jump off the page is the linebackers coach Chris Shula because so many important decisions still hinge upon that coach’s input. Can the Rams entire the 2021 NFL season ‘as is’? How will the Rams resolve the mass defections slated for 2022?
Then of course there is the assistant quarterback coach Zac Robinson. If you recall, Robinson was formerly from Pro Football Focus and was hired on by the Rams in 2019. We liked the move then, and like the move today. Will the LA Rams give Robinson a larger role with the quarterbacks? How does a relatively new quarterback coach interact with a veteran NFL quarterback like Matthew Stafford?
