Despite the school of thought amongst some football purists that the game was meant to be played on natural grass, the NFL is almost evenly divided now between teams that play on grass versus teams that play on synthetic turf, with grass maintaining a slim one-safety lead. The scoreboard says Grass fields, 17 – Synthetic turf fields, 15. Of course, the NFLPA would love to see all 32 NFL stadiums switch to natural grass.

The winds of change are blowing in turf’s favor, however, as these new-fangled high-tech artificial surfaces are ending a trend toward playing fields of natural grass at NFL stadiums and MLB ballparks alike. And SoFi is just the latest. The latest and arguably the greatest.

But the proof is in the pudding, right? Well, DeSean Jackson’s first reaction was an awe-inspired “This is siiiick!” reaction.

It’s the perfect storm for veteran wide receiver DeSean Jackson. Reuniting with his former offensive coordinator Sean McVay in his home state of California on the marquee stage of the NFL at SoFi Stadium. Talk about punctuating his NFL career with an exclamation point?!

Now about his injury history. The Los Angeles California native will no doubt want to finish off his notable NFL career in front of his home state, home city family, and friends. The consensus among those who have expressed opinions definitely skew towards the pessimistic side. But even though the sports injury predictor cites Jackson as 25 percent likely of suffering an injury per game, I’m more optimistic.

The Rams will make optimal use of Jackson’s plays each game, and SoFi Stadium will do the rest for half of the games played this season. The LA Rams are playing on the Matrix, Sean McVay will fill the role of Morpheus, and DeSean Jackson is the obvious Neo.
