I’ll be your roundabout

And so, we’re up to 21 pre-draft meetings that cover no more than six draft picks. Numerically, we’re nearly in the four prospects per pick area.  Well, scratch that. We are nearly at a one-for-one ratio on day two, but the ratio climbs to nearly a five-for-one ratio on day three. Hmm.

Round Two (one pick) (2 meetings)– Washington OLB Joe Tryon, Wisconsin-Whitewater OC Quinn Meinerz

Round Three (two picks) (2 meetings)– Florida State CB Asante Samuel Jr., Washington CB Elijah Molden

Round Four (one pick) (3 meetings)– UCLA WR/RB Demetric Felton, Western Michigan WR D’Wayne Eskridge, Auburn WR Anthony Schwartz

Round Five (no picks) (3 meetings)– Louisville RB Javian Hawkins, San Diego State CB Darren Hall, Wake Foret WR Tutu Atwell

Round Six (one pick) (4 meetings)– Oklahoma St LB Amen Ogbongbemiga, Iowa WR Ihmir Smith-Marsette, Texax A&M OT Dan Moore Jr., Wake Forest WR Sage Surratt

Round Seven (one pick) (4 meetings)– West Virginia DT Darius Stills, Iowa DT Chauncey Golston, North Carolina WR Dazz Newsome, Oregon CB Thomas Graham Jr.

UDFA/Priority signing (17 UDFA slots) (3 meetings)– Auburn WR/KR/PR Eli Stove, UCF’s WR Jacob Harris, UCF CB Tay Gowan

Clearly, the LA Rams draft board does not align well with the official NFL.com Prospects draft board. But that’s to be expected.  Still, the misalignment works both ways. If the Rams believe a prospect has a higher grade than reflected above, then the inverse applies as well.

It’s clear that, from a holistic perspective, the Rams appear to be aiming at day three prospects. And why not? If the Rams somehow convert their current battery of draft picks into day three picks, they will have at least ten picks, and if skewed to later rounds, upwards of 20 picks to spend. Of course, the key to this draft is to have as many picks to use before the talent level drops significantly.

The Rams appear to be preparing for trading back, and we fully support that effort. The key to the 2021 NFL Draft is to elevate the talent level of the roster and to thicken the talent level and depth chart for vulnerable positions. It appears that the LA Rams are well on their way.
