Bonus free agent signing

Three positions of need, and with a bit of persuasion, negotiation, and good timing, the LA Rams could solve roster issues with a couple of 2022 NFL Draft picks. But what about a last-minute FA signing? After all, the market price for free agents is typically at their lowest just before the NFL Draft, and the Rams certainly have holes in the roster that seem to outnumber their available draft picks. Vikings ILB Eric Wilson would have been a wise option to sign before the draft, but the Philadelphia Eagles scooped him up for next to nothing.

Some names or players who remain unsigned include New York Jets inside linebacker Patrick Onwuasor, New York Jets inside linebacker Neville Hewitt, New England Patriots outside linebacker Shilique Calhoun, or even Washington Football team outside linebacker Mychael Kendricks.

The key is not to shoot for an All-Pro this late into free agency, but rather to target players who can give a finite number of quality-defensive-snaps a game, and who could step up into a starting role if the team needed him to do so.

The LA Rams have an opportunity to do some great things in the 2021 NFL Draft. But with a bit of planning, and a little extra work upfront, this draft could be one of the best ever. The team simply needs to sidestep getting pigeon-holed into making the obvious position selections in the draft. Instead, addressing critical needs before entering the draft makes the Rams a very dangerous team when they step up to the podium.
