NFL Draft 2021: LA Rams 5 bold OL predictions
By Bret Stuter
Prediction III
The LA Rams will have a draft-day trade involving sending an offensive lineman to another NFL team, trading for an offensive lineman from another NFL team, or both. You see, the Rams will not be happy with their remaining options if they cannot land one of the top three offensive centers. And as has been the case, the Rams just do not take a turn at the podium before their top targets have been selected.
So the best alternative is to trade for a veteran who can start early in the season, but recede into a backup role for the team later in the season if other players are able to step up and earn the starting role.
If the Rams fail to draft a center by the end of day two, I would expect the team’s general manager Les Snead to be working the phones in an attempt to pry a reserve offensive center from another NFL team. While that won’t come without giving up something of value, the Rams have been able to do so in the past for the cost of a future fifth-round pick.
This year, that cost could be a late future draft pick or perhaps one of the Rams offensive tackles? With Joseph Noteboom facing his last contracted year, he would be an ideal trading chip to land an offensive lineman from another team. Or perhaps the Rams must succeed by offering offensive tackle Bobby Evans? In any case, it’s an option for the Rams and one that I truly expect them to take before the draft is over.
