NFL Draft 2021: LA Rams 5 bold OL predictions
By Bret Stuter
Prediction I
The LA Rams will not draft an offensive center at 57. While this may seem like a restatement of the previous prediction, it’s really not. Some offensive linemen are projected as NFL centers but have never played the position before. I’m coming right out and calling it here, the Rams will not draft a center at 57.
What I believe may happen is that the Rams will weigh trade-back options and if they get the right offer to add two additional picks in this draft, they will pull the trigger. Of course, an option to trade back while landing two third-round picks is an ideal scenario.
The team needs help on the defensive side of the ball. Over the course of the past two years, the cornerback position has been somewhat depleted as the team focused upon loading up with big safeties who have some corner-backing skills. Now the teams must add bona fide cornerbacks, an edge rusher, and perhaps a defensive lineman.
Of course, the Rams have needs on the offensive line and could make use of any offensive weapons who fall to the Rams also. It will clearly depend on how the board lines up for the team. Even though quarterbacks will be the headline story of the first day of this draft, the real tale that will impact the Rams draft strategy will be the number of offensive linemen drafted in the first round.
Yes, the Rams need offensive line help. But there are options for the offensive line throughout the draft and even after the draft. Keep your eye on Stanford offensive center Drew Dalman. After the draft is over, he could quickly become a viable option for the Rams center competition.
