NFL Draft 2021: Top 7 LA Rams prospects from MWC
By Bret Stuter
San Jose State WR
And finally, last but not least is our seventh player feature from the Mountain West Conference. He is the wide receiver from San Jose State named Tre Walker (No grade per NFL.com, 5th-round grade per PFF). Why are we talking about another wide receiver? Well, keep in mind that the LA Rams loaded up on receivers in 2020 after the draft. And for all intents and purposes, the Rams still consider receivers to be the primary position to handle return and coverage duties on special teams.
Tre Walker is a 5-foot-11 180-pound receiver who brings plenty of production to an offense, and as such is worth taking a look at. In his four seasons, in just 36 games, he put up 189 receptions for 2,790 yards and 12 touchdowns. He suffers from being a good receiver in a very deep and talented draft class.
Getting open at all levels is quite an endorsement. He proved his worth at the Hula Bowl, and each catch was commented on by our very own John Vogel. Speaking of John Vogel, he offered up this additional commentary:
"“Walker best projects as a slot receiver. I was really impressed with his ability to connect with multiple QBs at the Hula Bowl so quickly, showed me that he can form chemistry at a rapid pace. He’s got better size than a lot of the slot guys which means that people might want him to play the Z, and as a result that could stunt his growth. If he finds a special teams slot to develop into a Z, he could go 6th round. Otherwise he’s just a depth guy immediately that you hope really blossoms and stands out in camp. – John Vogel, Ramblin fan contributor"
While I cannot see the LA Rams using a draft pick on him, I definitely believe that if he falls out of the draft, he would be an ideal prospect to land and work with on the practice squad.
Seven prospects and I would be thrilled to find any of them signed to the LA Rams roster. Stay tuned, as we plan to cover all of the major NCAA football conferences. this week.
