NFL Draft 2021: Top 5 LA Rams prospects from MAC
By Jay Blucher
Offensive tackle
The fourth of our five MAC prospects is the offensive tackle out of Miami of Ohio by the name of Tommy Doyle (5.93-grade per NFL.com)
The class of 2021 is loaded with offensive line help for the LA Rams, so I do look for the Rams to track them throughout the draft and even after the draft. Tommy Doyle is one of the players with trememdouns NFL potential.
Los Angeles Rams
Some scouts say he could even be the highest player drafted out of the Mid-American Conference this year. He’s tree-top tall at 6-foot-8 and weighs in at 326-pounds. Doyle received First Team All-MAC honors and was named a Team Co-Offensive Player of the Year. Miami of Ohio was crowned MAC Champions for the first time since 2010, due in no small part to his prowess on the offensive line of scrimmage.
At first, he opted out of the 2020 season but then when the MAC announced they’d play a shortened season, Doyle returned to play three final games against Ball State, Buffalo, and Akron. He’s played both right and left tackle positions in college. His experience at both sides of the offensive line helps him very much because of how versatile he is.
Doyle has a ton of potential and is widely viewed as representing a low-risk high-reward pick in the later rounds of the draft. He’s certainly got the requisite size and length.
He could be viewed as a developmental left tackle at the NFL level or a serviceable backup and swing tackle. NFL teams can never have enough offensive line depth.
