NFL Draft 2021: Top 10 LA Rams prospects from the Big-12
By Bret Stuter
Defensive tackle
Last but not least is one of my favorite players in the 2021 NFL Draft, a defensive tackle out of West Virginia by the name of Darius Stills (5.69-grade per NFL.com). He is a maniac on the football field, a powerhouse Tazmanian demi-god of whirlwind chaos.
Darius Stills is not projected to hear his name called on draft day. That’s somewhat surprising because his production was solid and he plays a position that is not exactly overflowing with talent this year. Well, that sometimes happens, as the abundance of talent elsewhere forces draft analysts to undervalue other positions. In reality, NFL teams actually undervalue the abundance in positions and leap to grab the talent in less robust supply.
Cited by most with his quickstep off the snap, his stunts, and twists, and his burst to the quarterback, the challenge with draft analysts is that they all focus upon Stills’ size, and draw negative conclusions about his NFL potential from that vantage point. The LA Rams have no problem with shorter defensive tackles, as the same was once said about Aaron Donald.
Still would be a solid player on the Rams roster for several reasons. First, he would be an amazing understudy to LA Rams All-Pro defensive tackle Aaron Donald. Second, he would be a great developmental prospect to ensure the Rams are not left in the lurch if they cannot re-sign NT Sebastian Joseph-Day in 2022. Third, he would be a great player to have on hand as the Rams season wears on to give starters a rest on the defensive line.
Six picks, and ten prospects. Will the Rams choose any of these worthwhile rookies for their roster? We’ll know soon enough.
