5 takeaways from LA Rams 2021 NFL Draft Day 2

V – The LA Rams are still at it – drafting today for tomorrow’s players
The LA Rams have a solid formula. This is not a team that follows along with everyone else. This organization likes how it conducts the business of professional football and is sticking to that formula. With a 43-21 record, the team clearly has earned the right to do so. So what is the master plan?
Well, the way the Rams have worked out the replenishment of the roster is pretty simple, to be honest. The team drafts prospects to fill anticipated holes in the roster for the next year. Let’s examine what the Rams did in 2020 as an example? RB Cam Akers filled the void of RB Todd Gurley. But WR Van Jefferson was drafted to fill the anticipated void of WR Josh Reynolds. S Terrell Burgess was drafted to fill the anticipated void of John Johnson. TE Brycen Hopkins was drafted to fill the anticipated void of Gerald Everett.
WR Tutu Atwell clearly can project as filling the void of veteran WR DeSean Jackson, and even KR/PR Nsimba Webster. And ILB Ernest Jones is an ideal projected replacement for veteran ILB Micah Kiser. There are still projected defections at the offensive line, outside linebacker, and cornerback positions, and it’s not a stretch to expect the Rams to address those positions on Day Three of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Of course, there are the undrafted players who have a better than NFL average of earning a spot on the Rams roster. The team loaded up with safeties, inside linebackers, defensive linemen, and wide receivers in 2020. This year, the Rams will likely sign outside linebackers, cornerbacks, offensive linemen, and wide receivers after the draft.
