LA Rams S Paris Ford: Can he compete for a roster spot?
By Jay Blucher
Ford tough
But in the end, none of that really matters too much, because now, he’s just got to come into the LA Rams’ training camp and prove his mettle. Sell himself with his play on the field. Make the Rams wanna’ keep him. He can do that by simply doing what he’s done all along. Deliver.
It’s not like he didn’t produce in the college ranks- three interceptions in each of the last two seasons, and 90 tackles in 2019. And until he quit the team at midseason, he had 41 tackles, on par with his previous year’s numbers if you were to project out his season. Here’s a sampling of his skillset: Paris Ford @ Pitt
And now that he’s a UDFA signing of the Rams, the pundits say he may only have a chance to make the tail end of the Rams’ roster or possibly latch on with their practice squad. While that may be so, I wouldn’t rule out his ability to latch onto a roster spot. After all, he’s from All-Pro DL Aaron Donald’s alma mater. For a bonus treat, here’s a video of Ford training with Aaron Donald earlier this year in the off-season at Pittsburgh: AD training with Paris Ford.
They say he’s really raw, will require coaching up for the next level. But if he receives the right coaching, and he’s willing to apply himself and learn how to improve his cover techniques, he could be something special, and a bona fide steal for the Rams. The Rams have a good track record of taking players that improved their game enough to ultimately prove all their doubters and naysayers wrong.
And here’s hoping Ford adds his own name to that track record.
