LA Rams NFL Draft 2021: A deep-dive dissection of all selections
By Jay Blucher
It don’t come easy
But then, can we as Rams fans really ever truly put our full faith and confidence in a gang that brought us a team logo that resembles whatever Eric Dickerson said it looked like? A team that traded away not one, not two, but three first-round draft picks and a Super Bowl-starting QB for a veteran QB who’s never won even so much as a single playoff game?
Then, in the back of our minds are the ghosts of Drafts Days Past with names like Tavon Austin, Trung Candidate, Lawrence Phillips, Tye Hill, Greg Robinson, Jason Smith or Jesse James. (No, not the outlaw, but the offensive lineman drafted in 1995 who played one game in his rookie season and one game in his second season, neither of which were starts).
Draft day swings and misses. Whiffs. Busts. Uncomfortable reminders that there are more than a few potholes on this road. Like Jimmy Morrison once advised us all, “Oh, keep your eyes on the road, your hands upon the wheel. Yeah, we’re going to the Roadhouse. Gonna have a real. A good time.”
It’s clear this Ram’s draft wasn’t some mere knee-jerk reaction. It was not a panic-inspired rush to plug roster holes. Indeed, it took a few paths down NFL roads less traveled, too.
Was that road sign missing back there a few miles ago? Honey, could you reach inside the glove box and pull out the map? Oh damn, there’s no map in there?
Alexa, gimme’ directions to Lombardi Trophy Boulevard. Honey, can you Google Super Bowl Drive for me? Damn, this GPS ‘ain’t telling me shiznit!
