LA Rams must decide among 4 feasible O-Line configurations
By Bret Stuter
Offensive line w Kevin Carberry guys
Okay, the LA Rams did not commit any draft picks to offensive linemen in 2021 and limited their 2020 draft to the selection of offensive lineman Tremayne Anchrum in the seventh round. The curious thing is that the LA Rams may have gotten an incredible steal with Anchrum. The team has since added three offensive linemen: Max Pircher (Italy), Alaric Jackson (Iowa), and Jordan Meredith (Western Michigan)
This starting offensive line is a utopian view of what the offensive line coach Kevin Carberry might do with the team this year. With some chance to work with his offensive linemen, and plug a few different combinations into the three preseason games, the new coach will be able to take some chances. This configuration may be a bit unrealistic, but it’s a what-if lineup that should be talked about. Of course, any presumption that operates amidst the belief that the team is not limited by time to work with all of the new players joining the roster is highly skeptical, and I admit that. In the end, it’s a very optimistic lineup
Position Starter Backup
Left tackle Andrew Whitworth Joseph Noteboom
Left guard David Edwards Jamil Demby
Center Jordan Meredith Coleman Shelton
Right guard Alaric Jackson Bobby Evans
Right tackle Tremayne Anchrum Rob Havenstein
Practice squad: Chandler Brewer, Austin Corbett, Brian Allen, Max Pircher
What I like about this scenario are the what-might-be best-of-the-best scenarios. Of course, any scenario that pulls offensive linemen who have been solid contributors in previous seasons will not find them suddenly on the practice squad. What is more likely is that the LA Rams would trade to recoup their fifth-round draft pick investment in Austin Corbett if he is not a starter in 2021.
The Rams could allow competition at any position listed here to invert the depth chart, but the overall sense is that the undrafted free-agent offensive linemen will play a significant role on this team in 2021, perhaps as much out of necessity as their own talent and performance.
