The LA Rams certainly took the hint, didn’t they? Moments after we scolded the LA Rams for squandering a precious roster spot on the team’s third long snapper, the LA Rams released former San Francisco 49ers longs snapper Colin Holba after claiming Tennessee Titans’ long snapper Matt Orzech off waivers.

It’s not exactly a surprising move. The Rams signed Holba mid-season in 2020 to ensure that the team had an emergency long snapper in the unlikely event of then-long snapper Jake McQuaide testing positive for COVID-19.

That reduced the team’s current number of players to 88. The maximum number of players for the 2021 NFL season is 90. Are the Rams setting up the roster for another move? There is a little bit of money left in the kitty right now. Is it enough to entice a veteran hoping to rebound in the 2021 NFL season to a one-year prove-it deal? Well, Holden Cantor certainly believes so, as he shared in his recent article about three free agents who could help the Rams out immediately.

So far, the Rams seem to be content to await the NFL waiver wire and help themselves to the occasion released player to sign, more as window dressing than as a significant effort to upgrade the current roster’s talent level or to ignite competition at critical positional battles anticipated for this offseason.

With the LA Rams roster at 88 on May 14, 2021, the team can add two additional players to climb to the 90-man roster maximum for offseason training camp. While we have noted no current rumors, we would not be surprised to see that the LA Rams make additional moves to address the offensive line depth chart.

Historically, the LA Rams would carry 15 offensive linemen into training camp. This year, the Rams have a roster exception due to the inclusion of Max Pircher from the International Player Pathway Program. In theory, the exception would allow the Rams to carry Pircher as an exempt player to the practice squad. Should the Rams remain content with the status of their offensive line depth, they may wish to add an additional cornerback to the roster.
