WR Jackson

The LA Rams certainly tried to take advantage of the depth and talent of the 2020 NFL Draft class at the wide receiver position with the addition of five wide receivers after the draft concluded. They were Trishton Jackson, Ernest Edwards, Brandon Polk, J.J. Koski, and Easop Winston.  Of the group, the LA Rams signed Koski to the practice squad and kept Jackson on the 53-man roster.

Jackson is a 6-foot-1 197-pound wide receiver out of Syracuse University who, despite the huge number of talented receivers in the class, was expected to be selected as high as rounds two-three.  His draft profile was rather complimentary, as he was Syracuse’s top receiving threat in 2019.  His skillset, although similar to that of other Rams’ receivers, didn’t find the football field.

While not the fastest on the Rams roster, his 4.5-second 40-yard dash time is nothing to sneeze at and is actually slightly faster than the Rams former wide receiver Josh Reynolds. While a player with that speed, and described as ‘soft hands’, had many avenues to contribute in 2020, none really seemed to open for him.

TuTu Atwell is lightning fast, and now an official LA Rams receiver. light. Trending

He was full-out redshirted in 2020, sitting behind underused rookie WR Van Jefferson, and he was carried on the roster the entire season. There is no doubt that other NFL teams would have shown interest if the Rams tried to move him to the practice squad if nothing else than due to his lofty draft projection. Before anyone forms the wrong conclusion, this young man certainly upped his game in so many ways throughout the 2020 NFL season. Need proof? Check out his offseason workout video:

He was always intended to be stashed for the 2021 NFL season. So what happened along the way? Well, to be brutally honest, the Rams found themselves stuck into a pattern at wide receiver with 6-foot-0 Robert Woods, 6-foot-2 Cooper Kupp, 6-foot-1 Van Jefferson, and to a large extent, 6-foot-1 Trishton Jackson offering a very similar profile in the receiving game.  The 2021 NFL Draft class certainly changed that pattern, as the team added 5-foot-9 Tutu Atwell, 6-foot-5 WR/TE Jacob Harris, and 6-foot-3 WR Ben Skowronek. How does Jackson stack up against this new wave of competition?

He should be strongly competitive.
