The LA Rams could make use of a number of players who are still NFL Free Agents but don’t look for the team to show much interest in the former teammate of quarterback Matthew Stafford – WR Golden Tate. Tate played 4.5 seasons as a primary target for Stafford when they were teammates with the Detroit Lions.
During their time together, Tate put up the best numbers of his lengthy NFL career. (Isn’t that a good measure for the quality of the quarterback?) After all, he caught nearly 70 percent of the passes thrown to him by Stafford, put up the most touchdowns of his career by a significant margin, and he even had the longest chapter of his career with the Lions.
Those are all good reasons for him to shop his wares and list the LA Rams by name as one of the teams he would like to play for. Of course, the LA Rams wide receiver room is already quite crowded, so any move to sign Tate would need to be paired with a second corresponding move to free up a roster spot to add him. That likely won’t happen.

Of course, that is before we ever talk about the bad blood between Tate and LA Rams All-Pro defensive back Jalen Ramsey. You see, Ramsey was once involved in a long-term relationship with Golden Tate’s sister, Breanna. The terms of that breakup were not positive, and that became an ax to grind in Tate’s perspective.
That conflict took center stage when Tate and his New York Giants faced the Rams in SoFi Stadium in 2020. While the game was played relatively incident-free, the two adversaries jawboned one another the entire game. When the regulation play ended, the two were involved in a bit of fisticuff. Neither player showed any remorse after the game, and the incident was simply swept away by new games and challenges.
But it is a major roadblock to the Rams if they even had one iota of interest in signing Tate. The Rams are clearly heavily invested in their All-Pro defensive back Jalen Ramsey, so much so that any overtures towards Tate would need to be cleared by Ramsey beforehand. Due to the bad blood between the two, don’t look for Ramsey to roll out the welcome mat as he had done in the past. Tate may have the Rams on his wish list of teams that he would enjoy playing for. But in this case, I don’t see any way it happens.
If you are reading this, Golden Tate here is a bit of advice. Don’t call the LA Rams. They’ll call you.
