The new wave of recruiting

The NFL continues to take on the characteristics of the NBA. And no NFL team has adopted those NBA roster-building techniques as much as the LA Rams organization. It is the Rams who have shed the ‘you must draft for the future’ mindset that has allowed the organization to convert future uncertainty into present-day quality.

It was that trade for now that allowed the Rams to add Von Miller, a game-changer outside linebacker, to a defense that already boasts All-Pro defensive back Jalen Ramsey, and All-Pro defensive lineman Aaron Donald. Now, newly acquired Miller is already recruiting for his new team.

That’s how it works in the NBA. Now, the NFL is taking on that same player-recruiting-player route to adding free-agent talent. It’s a very effective method, particularly with established NFL players who have reached a plateau in the sport in terms of financial security and respect.

The LA Rams have created a roster where the team seeks the best of the sport to add to the roster. Who wouldn’t want to compete alongside Donald, Ramsey, Miller? Which receiver would not want to be catching passes from Matthew Stafford, having seen what a boost he has made to Cooper Kupp’s production? The LA Rams revitalize NFL careers. Odell Beckham Jr.’s career could use some of that right now.
