With the 213th pick…
The Los Angeles Rams select cornerback Josh Williams out of Fayetteville State. Don’t recognize his name yet? You soon will after the Senior Bowl. He is another small school prospect whose production and stature are simply too promising to ignore.
The young man stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 197-pounds. Although he played for a small school football team, he had big school production. In 28 games over three seasons, he produced 79 tackles, four tackles-for-a-loss, 22 pass deflections, and five interceptions. One interception was a pick-six.
Of course, the challenge with any small-program prospect is assessing how he will stack up against players from more competitive NCAAF programs. That will certainly be the focus of 32 NFL teams when he competes in the Senior Bowl this year. He will not only see how he stacks up against other prospective NFL cornerbacks, but he will be able to match up against projected NFL rookie wide receivers as well.
Whether or not this young man hits a home run facing competition, he already has a football background, ideal size, versatility, and a huge ceiling. At the 213th pick, the LA Rams will be happy to add a rookie with his potential. And with the Rams’ potentially losing both of their defensive backs, Darious Williams and Donte Deayon, the secondary will need reinforcements.
