With the end of the 2021-2022 season, the Super Bowl champion LA Rams must look toward the 2022-2023 season. The combine is the next marquee event on the NFL calendar, so now is the time to prepare for the draft.
The 2022 NFL Draft will be interesting for the LA Rams, as the team has legitimate needs, but the team has no first or second-round picks. Still, the selections the Rams do have can lead to significant additions.
The end of the season also means the LA Rams know the exact picks they have going into the NFL Draft, barring any more trades. Compensatory picks are not yet official, but the current LA Rams’ draft picks are projected to be :
- Third Round: one pick
- Fourth Round: one pick
- Fifth Round: one pick
- Sixth Round: three picks
- Seventh Round: two picks
The current assortment of picks leaves the LA Rams in a position where the goal is to draft players with starting potential or the ability to play a specific role on the team. These players are for the future rather than the present.
Some of these players may see substantial roles on the team depending on how the offseason shakes out. Free agency and retirements could drastically change the team’s needs.
There are a variety of online mock draft simulators and big boards to use, but for this mock draft, the simulator of choice is the Pro Football Network’s Mock Draft Simulator. PFN’s big board will also be in use to maintain continuity.
The objective of this Mock Draft is to be as realistic or provide justification for any players that fall to the LA Rams. Odds are there will not be any first-round talents that fall to the end of the third round.
Late-round gems can still turn into great players, and all of these players are worth watching the draft stock of as the offseason progresses.
