For a team that was not the most remarkable in 2021, Arizona State strangely has a few prospects the LA Rams should have interest in adding to the team. Their offensive tackle Kellen Diesch made an appearance in an earlier mock draft, and now their cornerback Jack Jones presents a potential late-round option for the LA Rams.

Jones presents an interesting option at cornerback for the LA Rams because the skillset he brings to the NFL is what the LA Rams need. Jack Jones’s strength is as a cover cornerback who can sit in a zone and play read-and-react coverage.

The main reason why Jack Jones may fall in the draft is his size, which limits him in tackling and press coverage. His lack of size could also present matchup problems against more physical receivers like DeAndre Hopkins and DK Metcalf.

Luckily for the LA Rams, they spent most of the 2021 NFL Season in zone coverage, the LA Rams cornerbacks usually avoid too much action in run defense and press coverage, and Jalen Ramsey is still the LA Rams top cornerback.

While the LA Rams cornerbacks do not shadow the best receiver in the same way that other teams do, the overall strategy behind the LA Rams defense protects a cornerback like Jack Jones from having his weaknesses exploited and allows him to show his strengths.

WIth Jones currently at a sixth-round projection, he could have an excellent NFL Scouting Combine and still be in a position for the LA Rams to draft him in the fourth or fifth round. If he has a poor performance during the NFL Scouting Combine, the LA Rams still have the incentive to look at him during his Pro Day, as there is another Arizona State player to watch.
