How important is this off-season to the LA Rams? Well, before answering that question, let’s review a few facts: The LA Rams have the least value in terms of draft picks in the 2022 NFL Draft of any team, the LA Rams are still trying to negate their salary cap deficit before the start of the 2022 NFL season, and the Rams face the toughest schedule in 2022 of any NFL team.

So, let’s agree to call this off-season very important.

Here we are just a few days shy of the NFL Free Agency period.  Teams can begin to legally negotiate with players and/or their agents with expiring contracts on March 14. Those teams cannot officially sign players until 1:00 pm PT on March 16, 2022.

In the meantime, prepare to hear whispers and reports about players expected to sign with teams later in the day on March 14, 2022.  The LA Rams are one of those teams that will be looking to bolster their roster wherever possible.  For the here and now, that means the LA Rams will need to restructure some deals. The team is also renegotiating contracts for two key players: QB Matthew Stafford and DL Aaron Donald.

Re-signing players is certainly doable by the team’s front office this year. In the process of paying both Stafford and Donald more money, the LA Rams can rework the contracts for these two players, which could net them over $26 million in savings.  They also have a number of other players they can restructure or extend that will free up even more dollars.  That money could go a long way towards resigning wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
