Out of the frying pan into the pressure cooker

None of those scenarios transpired, and the young man watched at tight ends Kendall Blanton and Brycen Hopkins earned meaningful offensive snaps later in the season. He also watched as teammate wide receiver Ben Skowronek earned offensive snaps late in the season as well. So much for a breakout rookie season for Harris.

Of course, his NFL career is not over. He is entering his second season for the Rams, a year that often is a far more polished and noteworthy season, particularly for a young man still working on his craft. But will that hold true for Harris?

It depends on Harris. After all, even injured, he had access to and the full support of the LA Rams coaches and training staff. While his injury did occur mid-season, he had all of the team’s OTAs, training camp, preseason games and preparation, and even nine weeks of team practices under his belt. In short, he knew what was to be expected of him this season, and has the entire off-season to prepare both physically and mentally to meet those challenges.

Competition is heating up

But the Rams roster has gotten a bit more crowded at the receiver position as well. The team signed WR Odell Beckham Jr. to the roster for the last half of the 2021 NFL season, and are expected to re-sign him for 2022. They discovered that rookie Ben Skowronek can make plays on offense. The Rams even discovered that Hopkins can catch a pass in the Super Bowl.

If Harris had an opportunity to get playing time on offense to see what he could do in 2021, he’s lost that currency for 2022. This year, the Rams will have a new rookie class to ponder and consider. For offensive production, Harris is pretty much back to square one for the 2022 NFL season. But he is far more prepared to compete in 2022 than ever before. And the LA Rams truly have no one on the roster who has the potential to be so dangerous in so many ways as Jacob Harris.

Will TE/WR Jacob Harris be ready for the LA Rams 2022 offense? I suppose, after all is said and done, that is truly up to him.
